More about the project

The NorOp study is conducted at Kongsberg Hospital and Oslo University Hospital from 2022 to 2025.

We have an interdisciplinary research team of psychologists, neuroscientists, anesthetists, and nurses. The project aims to understand how surgical patients in Norway experience their stay at the hospital and the period after their surgery.

We measure participants' experience of pain, use of analgesic medications, work and life situation after surgery, with a phone interview 2 days post-surgery and questionnaires at 2 weeks and 6 months post-surgery.

As a participant in our study, you will be asked about pain, pain-relieving medications, mood, loneliness, personality, childhood experiences, and alcohol and drugs (optional). These questions are asked before surgery and measured again after six months. Previous research has shown that these factors can affect health and recovery in both the short- and long-term.

NorOp will produce new and essential knowledge related to pain and pain relief after surgical interventions in Norway.
